Hello and thank you for your interest in all things related
to Acoustic Alternative. It’s a labor of
love to assemble playlist, do a radio show at a non-commercial radio station
and the podcast. Without viewers or
listeners like you, it means a bit less, so again, thank you.
This week, I’ll start with talking about the radio
show. It’s on live Thursday from 10 AM –
Noon.
Possibly not convenient for those of you who work, but you
can stream it from anywhere during that time if it works for you. The radio show is a different take on the
music that fits into this category. For
instance, the past week I highlighted David Wilcox quite a bit. In fact, when I did the show at WHFR before I
got my job in Ann Arbor, David was an in studio guest once and on that visit he
did something pretty special. I
offhandedly asked him if he would want to create a theme song for my show and
pretty much immediately, without too much thought he created a song that I use
at the beginning of each show. He’s
released over 20 albums since 1987 and you won’t find that song on any of them.
This past week I also featured brand new music from The
Verve Pipe. I know what you may be thinking, “Hey, they are a rock band!” Sometimes, yes for sure. The sure rocked The Ark in Ann Arbor last
night. However, Brian Vander Ark is a great lyricist and capable of softer
moments.
For example, from “Found,” one of the new songs:
I am just a pin drop in the map of their hometown
Out there chasing melodies with madness all around
The song “First Fire Of Winter” is full of great lines, but my
favorite:
I don’t know why were surprised
were so surprised by a fire in the furnace
We paid for the oil, it’s feeding
the flames as autumn leaves
I discuss in great detail with
Brian the new album due out November 5th called Threads. The plan is for that podcast to make it’s
debut on all the platforms on October 27th. If you want to hear it or see it, please subscribe
at your favorite podcast channel.

The session I did with The
Accidentals had an accidental mishap during the session. It turns out the microphone
I was using to interview the band wasn’t part of the mix. Fortunately there were
room microphones picking up everything that was going on. Hopefully it sound good in the end because
the performance was killer. Look for it
on October 13th.
Finally, there is the weekly YouTube
playlist. This was the first thing to emerge when I got furloughed from the
radio station last Spring. This week you can hear great tunes from Rachael
Davis, NEEDTOBREATHE, Ryan Racine, Clark Beckham and The Verve Pipe.
The playlist is brought to you by two great listening rooms
in Michigan:Seven Steps Up and 20 Front Street.
